I’m gonna try a new thing. If you want to ask me a relatively simple question about something you think I might know about, ping it over to @askpeteashton on Twitter. If I have time and, more importantly, have the answer I’ll ping it back to you. The big caveat is answers must fit in a 140 character Tweet.

Here’s an example:

you: @askpeteashton How do I embed YouTube videos in a WordPress.com blog?

askpeteashton: @you Details here: http://bit.ly/dXvE2 but in brief use [youtube http://videoURL]

Some tips:

  • If you’d like to ask everyone who’s following you as well as me (which would be wise – no point relying on a bottleneck) put @askpeteashton at the end of your tweet. I’ll still see it but so will everyone else and they might get there before me.
  • I tend to check Twitter when having a break or needing a distraction, not religiously every minute of the day (despite what it might look like) so I may not get to your question in a timely manner.
  • I may not answer your question at all. I’ll try and send a “sorry” if I can’t but there are NO GUARANTEES.
  • If I don’t know but think my followers might be able to help I’ll retweet via @peteashton.
  • Keep it simple, keep it within my field (social media, blogging, photography, Birmingham, alternative and underground art comix) and try searching Google first.

      What twitter related applications would you recommend e.g. tweetspinner, bit.ly, etc?

        I’d rather keep this to Twitter if that’s okay. The 140 character restriction keeps it short and viable – comments can go on and on…

        But in answer I’m currently liking Tweetie on Mac and iPhone and bit.ly for URL shortening. Also I post images through Twitpic and Skitch.

        But that’s me. I’d resist using my use of Twitter as something to be generalized. There are no “best” clients – just ones that are right for you at this moment. Thankfully you can switch very easily.

        And now I’m in danger of turning this into an essay. See why I’m wanting to keep this to Twitter?
