Sorry for the late notice on this one but Nick Booth is marshaling the bloggers and social media types in Birmingham to provide another Social Media Surgery for voluntary / community groups and charities this Wednesday, March 25th. Drop in anytime between 5.30pm to 7.00pm at Fazeley Studios, 191 Fazeley Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DR. Nick’s been organising these for a few months now and it’s one of my favourite things that we do in Birmingham ticking all the boxes from giving something back to society to honing my mentoring skills with people with an incredibly wide range of needs.
What’s become apparent to me is the barrier to helping is pretty low. Sure, some of the orgs will need pretty specialist help but a lot of them simply need to talk to someone who’s familiar with the way things are done online, be it posting to a blog or uploading a photo to Flickr. I expect I’ll be doing my magic Flip camera to YouTube to WordPress blog I created earlier trick. That one always goes down well. So if you know your Internet tools and are free for a couple of hours do pop along. You’ll be surprised at how helpful you can be. (And if you’re somehow not we always need people to meet and greet.)
Details are here and if you’re an organisation looking to come for help please sign up here so Nick can get an idea of numbers and requirements.
